iCOOP Co-operative Institute in the second half of 2015

Second half of 2015 is filled with various activities of iCOOP Co-operative Institute (hereafter ICI). It organized the annual iCOOP Co-operative Research Contest to nurture co-operative researches in Korea and two bi-annual surveys on the consumer members and producers group members, respectively, to fully understand their current condition and capture their changes. It also held a Specialist Discussion session to exchange opinions about the possible improvement of the Korean legislation about co-operative financing.

An important step for ICI research is the first publication of 2014 iCOOP KOREA Statistics to provide a complete picture of iCOOP KOEA’s various activities. As a multi-dimensional co-operative, iCOOP KOREA is not only a food-retail business organization with many subsidiaries and sister organizations but also an important societal actor who supports Korean agriculture, Fair-Trade movement and sharing or charitable activities as well. The Statistics helps to understand these different dimensions of iCOOP’s activities and provides a valuable data set for researchers and co-operators.

Its recent translation project bears significance as well. ICI planned and supported the translation project of the classic text of co-operative movement, Laidlaw Report written in 1980, Co-operatives in the year 2000. Another important translation project ICI conducted was that of A Century of Co-operation written by the eminent historian and social thinker, G.D.H Call in 1944 was first introduced to the Korean public seeking for inspiration for the co-operative movement.
